The Home Office has stringent requirements for applicants seeking to gain a Student visa. While each applicant’s situation may differ slightly, the requirements can be summarised as follows:

• You meet the suitability requirements – good immigration history and acceptable criminal record.
• You have been issued with a valid Confirmation of Studies (CAS) by a Home Office approved university/college.
• You are applying no more than 6 months before the start date of your course.
• You will be studying on a course which meets Home Office specifications.
• You have enough money in your bank account to pay your course fees and at least £1023 per month for living expenses, for a period of 9 months.
• You have English language skills to a minimum of level B2.

Yes, under certain circumstances, your family may be able to accompany you to the UK on a Student visa. If you are enrolled in a full-time postgraduate course lasting nine months or longer, your spouse/partner and dependent children may be eligible to apply for a dependant visa to join you. However, there are specific financial requirements that must be met, and each family member will need to submit their own visa application. The application fee for a UK Student visa depends on your situation, where you are and how you apply. Generally speaking, it costs £363 to apply for a Student visa from outside of the UK, and £490 to extend or switch to this visa from within the UK.  Additionally, you may need to pay the immigration healthcare surcharge of £624 per year as part of your application. The processing time for a UK Student visa can vary. However, it typically takes around 3 weeks (15 working days) from the date you submit your application if you are outside the UK, or 8 weeks from within the UK. Please note that the earliest you can apply for this visa is 6 months before your course starts if you are outside the UK, or 3 months before your course start date if you are already in the UK.
